The President of the
Marseille Chamber Of Commerce & Industry opened
"Premiere", the first world congress of Chambers of
Commerce in front of an audience of more than 750
participants representation more then 90 countries.
"It was a double historical moment that of the anniversary
of the oldest Chamber in the world and also the creation
of the first world network of CCI". reminding us that
globalization and new technologies modify the state of
play and that it is up to the Chambers of Commerce to
prepare the further, he stated his conviction of the
urgent necessity to put "economics at the service of Man
and not the opposite."
This humanist approach was developed by his successor on
the podium, Adnan Kassar, Chairman of the ICC
(International Chamber of Commerce). "We are not only
creators and managers of material wealth but also the
founders of Humanism. This Humanism which we shall need
increasingly over the coming decades so as to provide a
counterbalance to the excesses of technique and
technology... Once again we shall be obliged to call upon
the little extra soul that the philosopher Henri Bergson
talked about". He also paid a special tribute to the
oldest Chamber in the world whose example contributed to
the birth of the ICC in 1919. "It was just after the end
of the First World War and the Old Europe was attempting
to rebuild itself. The founders of the ICC were
entrepreneurs convinced the trade was a cornerstone of the
prosperity and peace. 80 years later the ICC is present in
137 countries".
